CHAMPIONSHIP

ELITE 8, PLAY-IN, & DAZZLING DOZEN© CHAMPIONSHIP ROUNDS

NEW CHAMPIONSHIP RESULTS - (The championship play placed the final four teams in a double-elimination format. The championship game played a full 7 innings with no time limits. Updated Sept. 16th.)

This year, due to rain, only the final four teams played in the double-elimination format.

-- DOUBLE-ELIMINATION SEPT. 15th SCHEDULE - (The play on Sept. 15th allows the final four teams to play a double-elimination format. The championship game will play a full 7 innings with no time limits. Updated Sept. 9th.)

This year, teams were seeded for the Play-in and Elite Eight rounds (with their league rankings as of August 11th retained for the rain-revised single-elimination championship rounds). Again this year, due to more rain, some teams needed to finish their group play or win a tie-breaker game coming out of the group play. Only the final four teams play in double-elimination brackets because of persistent rain.

OLD SINGLE-ELIMINATION Sept. 8th BRACKETS

So this year, the Dazzling Dozen© of teams are slated to come from the 15 teams that advanced from group play competition...the brackets are arranged in a sixteen-team layout.

The top four ranked teams are separated in each of the four sections of the "Elite Eight" and paired as closely as possible to traditional pairings - highest ranked vs lowest, number two vs second lowest, and teams ranked in the middle vs others with mid-ranged rankings. The group play also separated the top seeds into separate groups as best as possible given each team's August preference date to play the first round POD.

Commissioner's mascots of past tournaments on Andrews Air Force Base fields prior to the 9/11 attacks:

Just beyond the hanger for Air Force One on Andrews Air Force Base,
Potamus guards a softball he stole from a player's bag
while Miss Beavis looks to find a comfortable spot on which to rest.

Prior to the 2000 championship round of the final four teams,
Potamus poses with the trophies at Andrews Air Force Base.

Between games, Potamus uses warm-up time to rule on the Andrews AFB field
as well as scout the player talent of each year's participants.

Potamus patiently waits behind the backstop until the teams form a line to
congratulate each other at game's end. That's his signal for someone to throw a
ball into the outfield while he runs looking up behind him.
